Lunch time TV club

Posted by SalesianLibrary on May 6, 2010

The Library has decided to start up a TV club! We’ve decided to give this a try for a few weeks and see how many kids are interested. Mr James and I thought that this would be a good idea for Friday lunchtimes, especially during the cold winter weather which is approaching us at the moment. We at first thought of a movie club, but decided we had too little time to run this, so settled on playing TV episodes. We’re currently playing season 2 of The Big Bang Theory so come on down to the Library this Friday at lunchtime for some great comedy!

Changes to the Library

Posted by SalesianLibrary on April 28, 2010

The Library staff have made a few small, but great changes in the Library over the past few weeks that you may or may not have noticed. First up we’ve taken the dreary old bulletin board, which was originally covered in a heshion sack type material and recovered it with this blue material. I think it looks a lot fresher and more colourful:

Next up, we’ve decided to brighten the place up and bring the outside in. That is, we’ve brought a few small pot plants to bring more colour and life into the Library. We have green leafy plants, a couple of flowering plants and one, which is my particular favourite, with pink tinged leaves.

And lastly we’re in the process of tidying our shelves up and making them much more attractive and user friendly. Have a browse through the 700’s and 800’s where you’ll find the shelves are much more open now. We’ve even got enough space to put some books on display in these sections. Here’s a picture of a couple of the shelves:

Changes to the Fiction section

Posted by SalesianLibrary on August 20, 2009

You may or may not have noticed some changes that have taken place in the Library recently. We found that we had a lot of space on our shelves so decided to shorten and get rid of some of them. We’re really happy with the results!

As you can see in this photo, we’ve cleared out some shelves from the front of this big window. It opens up the area a lot, and lets a lot more light in.

And in the next photo you can see that we’ve taken off the top shelf in this row of fiction. We found that the top shelf was much too high for some people to reach, so now, with the changes, the top shelf is much more accessible. Plus there were little windows hiding behind that top shelf, which are now opened up and letting more light in.

If you have a chance make sure to come down to the Library to check it out in person. The big windows (which are in need of a clean at the moment) look out to a garden, although the trees in it are quite big so we’re hoping to plant some smaller plants in the future.

Next time you go to the library, head up to the circulation desk and nab yourself a free bookmark! We’ve been making and handing out a few different designs for the past week or so and they’ve become quite popular. Just a little something from us to you to help make reading more enjoyable for you. 🙂

I got the idea from a great Library blog that I’ve been reading quite a bit lately. The Librarian who writes the blog, has come up with some fantastic ideas for libraries and I plan to try out more of her ideas in the future. You can check out her blog ‘Skerricks’ here
