‘Tomorrow, When the War Began’ movie

I’ve just found out recently that the book Tomorrow, When the War Began by John Marsden is to be made into a movie! Filming hasn’t started yet, as the movie has just been anounced but apparently Caitlin Stasey (Rachel from Neighbours) is to play Ellie, and Lincoln Lewis (Geoff from Home and Away) are set to play Ellie and Kevin.
You can find the IMDB entry here where they have a little bit of info about the movie and also a forum for questions/comments and news. You can also see some of the cast listed here although most of them aren’t listed on IMDB yet so I’m not sure if it’s the final list.
For those who don’t know Tomorrow, When the War Began follows the journey of Ellie and a group of seven others who band together to fight when Australia is invaded by an unknown enemy. There are seven books in the series. Renowned screenwriter Stuart Beattie, whose credits include Australia and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, will write and direct.

Competition
There’s a few different blogs that I like to follow, just to get an idea of what’s going on in the book and library worlds. One blog that I love is called Windowpane Memoirs which contains lots of great reviews as well as eye candy for book lovers. They also run some fantastic competitions which is why I’m posting about them on here. At the moment, through Windowpane Memoirs, you can win a $50 Amazon gift card! It’s a great prize and it’s very easy to enter the competition. All you have to do is go to http://windowpane-memoirs.com/2009/08/31/arcs-contest to find out more!
Good luck!

Changes to the Fiction section
You may or may not have noticed some changes that have taken place in the Library recently. We found that we had a lot of space on our shelves so decided to shorten and get rid of some of them. We’re really happy with the results!
As you can see in this photo, we’ve cleared out some shelves from the front of this big window. It opens up the area a lot, and lets a lot more light in.

And in the next photo you can see that we’ve taken off the top shelf in this row of fiction. We found that the top shelf was much too high for some people to reach, so now, with the changes, the top shelf is much more accessible. Plus there were little windows hiding behind that top shelf, which are now opened up and letting more light in.

If you have a chance make sure to come down to the Library to check it out in person. The big windows (which are in need of a clean at the moment) look out to a garden, although the trees in it are quite big so we’re hoping to plant some smaller plants in the future.

The Louvre website in English
All of you budding artists or those of you who have an interest in art will be interested to see that the website for The Louvre is now available in English. It’s a great website and definitely worth having a look at!

Thanks to Skerricks for pointing this out!

New blog: The Reader’s Nook
I tend to read a lot of fiction that our Library doesn’t have a copy of, so I feel that I can’t review these on the Library blog. Therefore I’ve decided to start up a new blog called The Reader’s Nook which you’re more than welcome to have a look at. I also cover more adult fiction in that blog, rather than just young adult fiction, including historical fiction, literature, mainstream and chick lit.
I’m hoping, if I get a big enough following, to introduce competitions in the future and make this an ongoing thing.

I’ve recently (as in just now) found out about a great little website called Windowpane Memoirs. The creator was such a great reader and fan of reading that she decided to start her own website. It has lots of reviews and, the main reason I’m letting you know about the blog, competitions.
Right now the site is running a Harry Potter competition, which is perfect considering the next movie has been released! Click here to be directed to information about the competition and to enter yourself. Or click here to go to the home page of Windowpane Memoirs.

2009 Production

Try-outs for this years production are coming up soon! This year the school is doing ‘Footloose’ and I’m so excited about it! For those of you who don’t know ‘Footloose’ is a musical about a boy called Ren who moves to a new town. He’s shocked when he finds that rock music and dancing (two of his passions) are illegal! Now Ren must lead the fight for the right to be himself and win his friends and classmates a real senior prom.
So if you’re interested in auditioning head over to the hall at lunchtime on Thursday the 26th of March! Good luck!
